Slow cookers
Slow
cookers cook a savory dinner while you work or play hard. A slow cooker
can be a busy cook’ s best friend. Slow cookers slowly cook food
at a constant temperature while you are free to catch up on work or
other activities. There are several features of slow cookers that you
should consider before you purchase one:
• Settings: slow cookers have at least two settings, high and
low. Many slow cookers have multiple settings. The newer slow cooker
designs also have a programmable feature that can be useful if, for
instance, your meal is fully cooked before you arrive home. In that
case, you can program your slow cooker ahead of time to only cook the
meal a certain number of hours and then switch to a “keep warm”
mode.
• Removable interior pot – this important to most cooks
for ease in serving and cleaning. It is easier to remove the interior
pot to serve from in on the dining table than to haul the entire appliance
to the table. Cleaning is also much easier with a removable pot. You
can scrub and soak a removable pot more easily in a kitchen sink.
• Slow cookers cook a meal over several hours. The flavors and
textures of slow cooked meals are generally pleasing and are often labeled
as “comfort foods.”
Slow cookers are often associated with winter season meals because
slow cookers cook stews, soups and casseroles well and those foods are
typical winter meals. Slow cookers are, however, just as helpful in
summer cooking as winter cooking. Slow cookers are appliances that simplify
busy lives and encourage togetherness at mealtime.
